Bias is a hot issue that flags up social attitudes which depend on preconceptions and attitudes considered correct for centuries.  When unfairness, abuse and crimes against women are no longer completely hidden from view, then people start paying attention and questioning.

Gender bias is as old as the oldest religions and cultures.  The issue is not about making men and women the same, but it is a matter of social and legal systems that treat women as objects rather than as people, thereby denying women basic human rights.  Simone de Beauvoir’s ground-breaking book, The Second Sex, published in 1949 describes the issue in minute detail. After 70 years of efforts to counteract systemic and institutionalised unfair and ill treatment of women we still have a very long way to go.

Our speaker, Denise Lawrence, will define the spiritual laws that give key information for redressing the balance.  Without this clarification, issues of gender bias will remain contentious, and attitudes are unlikely to change.
