The most important Jain religious observance of the year - Paryushana - literally means ‘coming together’ and ‘abiding’. Lasting either eight or ten days, it is a time of intensive study, reflection and purification.
It culminates with a final day that involves confession and asking for forgiveness. The spirit of the day is contained in this verse, recited by heart:
I grant forgiveness to all living beings,
May all living beings grant me forgiveness;
My friendship is with all living beings,
My enmity is totally non-existent.
Let there be peace, harmony and prosperity for all.
